BIO

Amanda M. Smith was raised in Naples, Florida and Fostoria, Ohio and currently resides in Provo, Utah. She received a BFA in Ceramics from Bowling Green State University and an MFA in Spatial Arts from San Jose State University. Amanda's work involves fables that explore questions of social hierarchies, politics and morality. Employing traditional ceramic decorative techniques like decaling, sprigging, lustering, and china painting has afforded her work a classically ceramic aesthetic and has allowed her to make archival, singular handmade art objects in a world of the ephemeral, mass-produced and/or disposable. Her art has shown previously with Andrew Edlin Gallery, Halle St. Pierre, Jack Fischer Gallery, The San Jose Museum of Art, Roberts and Tilton, ADA Gallery and Allegra LaViola Gallery.
