Erin Murray received her BFA with distinction from the Maryland Institute College of Art and has since exhibited widely in cities including Philadelphia, PA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, and Wilmington, DE. She has been the recipient of awards and honors including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, the West Collects acquisition prize, the Fleisher Wind Challenge Exhibition Grant and a Center for Emerging Visual Artists fellowship. Her work has been published twice in New American Paintings and has been curated into the Tiger Strikes Asteroid (NYC) Flat File program and the White Columns Artist Registry (NYC). She recently served five years as a member of the artist-run collective Vox Populi in Philadelphia, where she also lives and works. Murray uses habitually designed forms as source material for intensely focused, representational drawings, aiming to convey subtle experiential aspects of living in a human-made world. Moving between ornamental exterior and psychological interior in a space of heightened drama and atmosphere, she hints at the embodied nature and empathetic possibilities of our built environment.
