Mishel Valenton is a Filipino-American immigrant artist based in the Northern Virginia/Washington, DC area. She was born in 1982 in Manila, Philippines and graduated from the University of the Philippines in 2004. Her works explore personal representations of self and relationships through color and flora. In her recent drawings, the metaphysical self is conceived as layered shapes interacting and moving towards an imagined center that is always present yet out of reach. The Big Bang is a reference point that informs her work representing a shared singularity and the possibility of unity in a divided world.
